Vinyl Records Expected to Outsell CDs for First Time Since the 80’s
Times are changing and nostalgia is trying to win again.
For those of us old enough to remember things like 8-tracks, cassettes, and records, things are starting to come full circle. Being in my mid-thirties, I remember a time when my music collection was all on cassette tapes. Back when you could stumble across hidden tracks if you just let the tape run at the end of the album. After cassettes, I moved on to CDs, then on to digital formats of course.
While I was never too interested in vinyl records when I was a kid, I have enjoyed them later in life. It appears that I am not the only one by a long shot. According to a report from the Recording Industry Association of America, you can expect vinyl records to outsell CD's this year. It was thought that in 1982 when the compact disc hit the market that it would completely replace the vinyl record and for awhile it did. This year, however, is another story.
