Rain in Minnesota postponed the Tigers-Twins game last night.  Buck Farmer started against the Twins last night, and held the Twins scoreless until the game was called in the third inning.

The stats will be wiped out, and the game will be restarted this afternoon as the two teams play a split doubleheader today.  Anibal Sanchez will pitch game 1.  WBCK will have the game on the air at 1:45pm.   Justin Verlander will start for the Tigers tonight.    Broadcast time on WBCK is 7:45.

Neither Victor Martinez nor Ian Kinsler were able to play last night due to injuries sustained after both were hit by pitches in the same inning on Sunday.   Martinez has a swollen knee.  Kinsler a mild concussion.  The Tigers hope to get one or both back in the lineup today.

Detroit returns home on Friday to play Kansas City this weekend, and then host the first-place Indians starting Monday.

Charlotte Riots-Cam Newton

While Cam Newton called the latest police shooting in Charlotte, North Carolina "embarrassing," the Carolina Panthers quarterback says he's not rushing to any judgments until he has more information.  Speaking at his weekly press conference Wednesday, the league MVP said, "My big thing is holding people accountable— no matter what the race, no matter what the gender is, no matter what the age is."   Carolina's home opener is this Sunday against Minnesota.

Raiders to Vegas?

The Raiders are another step closer to calling Las Vegas home.  Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval says he intends to call state lawmakers into a special session early next month to consider a public financing plan for an NFL stadium. The Republican governor said he spoke with Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis this week and thought Davis was "committed and resolute in the team's interest in relocating to our state."  The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee last week recommended raising hotel taxes in the Las Vegas area to help put $750 million toward a 65,000-seat stadium.  Three-quarters of NFL owners would need to approve any team relocation.

NASCAR will not penalize Martin Truex Jr. or Jimmie Johnson for failing inspection after Sunday's race at Chicagoland Speedway, the opener the Sprint Cup playoffs. NASCAR executive vice president Steve O'Donnell said not penalizing either driver was the fair decision. Truex won the race and Johnson finished 12th before both cars failed the laser inspection with infractions that should have drawn 10-point penalties.
