Come On, Hallmark — $1,000 Isn’t Enough to Watch 24 Awful Christmas Movies
Easy money is easy money, but to me, this is not even worth it.
In case you haven't heard, the "Hallmark Movie Dream Job" sweepstakes is going to award one person a $1,000 check and a few other things to binge-watch 24 of their Christmas movies. Maybe it's the Scrooge in me, but nothing about that even seems fun or even worth doing for just $1,000.
I fully understand that there are two types of people in this world. First, the ones who are way too over the top about Christmas. They are the ones that decorate way too early, play Christmas music nonstop, and are 100% Christmas everything from October 31st until the new year. The other type of people are the ones I would call normal human beings. For the first type of people, this contest is great. For me personally though, it is stupid.
In a nutshell, one person in the sweepstakes is picked to binge-watch 24 Hallmark Christmas movies in 12 days and are asked to post their critiques on social media. That winner would walk away with a prize pack including $1,000, a streaming service subscription, a packet of hot cocoa, a box of Christmas cookies, a string of fairy lights, a mini Christmas tree, and some Hallmark swag.
For being made to watch 24 terrible, G-rated holiday romcoms and family movies and then posting about them on social media, that is the worst bunch of prizes ever. The $1,000 cash prize wouldn't even cover the amount of booze one would need to survive roughly 48 hours of terrible programming. If you ask me, the tiny tree, the small snack, and the swag that only your grandmother would like, doesn't sweeten the pot at all.
I get some of you disagree with my feelings on this. That is okay, we can disagree. I just firmly believe that there is a time for every holiday. Christmas hasn't started yet. Let me enjoy the marvels of that gluttonous holiday known as Thanksgiving before you start cramming your Christmas cheer down my throat. Someone has to take a stand. End rant.
If you want to apply, you can right here, just know you will be exiled from my newsfeed until 2020.
