Bridge Collapse Strands Train Over The Battle Creek River
A cargo train spent most of the day Tuesday stranded on the tracks over the Battle Creek River according to Calhoun County authorities. WWMT reports that a bridge collapse near McAllister Road in Pennfield Township was the cause.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the bridge to collapse. No injuries were reported, but the incident caused the train to block McAllister Road until it could be moved later in the day.
The Canadian National Railroad released a statement to WWMT regarding the bridge collapse that affected their cargo train:
"CN crews are responding to an issue with a bridge that occurred earlier this afternoon near Pennfield, Michigan. A CN train was stopped on the bridge near McAllister Road. There is no danger to the public with no leaks, spills or injuries reported. Adequate resources have been dispatched to the site to perform a full inspection of the bridge. One crossing has been blocked due to the incident, but it is now cleared."
