Big Cat Attacks In Michigan
With the death of Siegfried Fischbacher so closes the last chapter to one of the most unique show biz productions on the planet. Siegfried & his longtime partner Roy Horn (Siegfried & Roy) were a mainstay and a must see in Vegas for decades. Roy Horn died in May of 2020 due to complications from Covid-19.
Siegfried & Roy brought a glitz and glamour to the stage in Vegas, dazzling audiences with magic and circus like stunts involving exotic animals including big cats. The show was forced to end its run in Vegas however after Roy Horn was viciously attacked by one of their trained exotic white tigers.
The attack left Mr. Horn's windpipe crushed and he ended up suffering a stroke shortly afterwards partially paralyzing his left side. Now keep in mind this man worked and trained with this tiger that attacked him. He was a professional and well trained on how to handle big cats.
Its bad enough that Big cats are dangerous to work with but living with them can not only be dangerous but deadly as well.
Case in point. Back on October 29th 1995, a woman in Allegan County is killed by a Lion after entering the cage of a friend who kept big cats as pets. Even more horrifying was the fact that it happened right in front of her 9 year old daughter.
A Detroit Zoo keeper was attacked on May 24th 2008 while transferring Lions inside at the end of the day. Pepper spray saved his life as he fended off the animal but soon after, had to take a trip to the hospital for some stitches.
Four tigers and three lions being transported via a trailer attached to a truck toppled onto a freeway in Novi Michigan back in 1995 after the trailer came unhitched. Police were forced to go on a four hour tiger hunt after one escaped into a wooded area along the highway. Foot patrols and a helicopter were needed to apprehend the big cat. Luckily no one was injured.
