The 'Free The Nipple' movement is getting traction in the U.S.  (WARNING: this story contains topless people.)

Many woman accross the country are fighting to buck a double standard that may surprise you and their getting help from the judicial system according to yahoo news,

Women in six U.S. states are now effectively allowed to be topless in public, according to a new ruling by the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.  The decision stems from a multiyear legal battle in Fort Collins, Colo., where a city ordinance forbidding women from going shirtless in public has now officially been ruled unconstitutional.

Since the U.S. 10th Circuit Court covers Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Kanasas and Oklahoma; those states cannot pass laws that prohibit women from being topless in public.  The court determined that the previous law that prevented women from being topless was based on "negative stereotypes depicting women's breasts, but not men's breasts, as sex objects."

So, what about the mitten state?  Is it currently illegal for a woman to be topless in the state of Michigan?  Yes it is according to statelaws.findlaw.com,

In Michigan, you can be convicted of indecent exposure a number of different ways including intentional acts by "flashers" seeking sexual gratification, all the way to a person swimming naked alone in a lake, unaware that anyone can see him or her.

Michigan Criminal Code Section 750.335a

What is Prohibited?
Indecently exposing yourself in a public or private place; aggravated crime includes fondling (masturbating) any part of your genitals, pubic area, buttocks, or female breasts or having sexual contact with another person such as consensual sex.

The youtube channel Thoughts of A Woman interviewed many men and women about the "Free The Nipple" movement and why it's important to stop sexualizing women's breasts.  Warning: the video below shows topless men and women.
