It took a while to get the bats going again, but the Detroit Tigers exploded in the fourth inning to take the lead in a 5-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

The Tigers scored all five runs in the fourth inning, thanks to a grand slam from Andrew Romine. The two-out bomb lifted Detroit ahead just two batters after Tyler Collins RBI single put the Tigers on the board. Collins and Romine each had two hits, crediting them for 67 percent of the Tigers offense (just six hits on the day).

The Twins were able to get to Tigers starter Michael Fullmer early, scoring their three runs in the first three innings. It included a lead-off homer from Brian Dozier, his first round-tripper of the season. Fullmer (1-0) would finish with seven strikeouts in six innings to get his first win of the season. Alex Wilson would get his first save of the season for the Tigers, pitching the final two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Tigers will go for the three-game sweep of the Twins Thursday afternoon at Comerica Park. A win would give Detroit a 6-1 record during their opening homestand. Jordan Zimmerman gets the call for the Tigers, while the Twins will counter with Phil Hughes. Coverage begins at 12:45pm on 95.3 WBCK.
