A suspect is in custody in Kalamazoo following an armed robbery at a business Thursday night. At around 8:15, Kalamazoo police officers responded to an area in the 2800 block of Portage Rd. Employees provided authorities with a detailed description of a suspect. The man apparently had entered the business demanding money before fleeing with an undetermined amount of cash.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area and began using their K-9 unit to try and track down the suspect. A short time later, the suspect was located near the intersection of Portage Rd and Cork St. After being apprehended, officers were able to recover the stolen money as well as a firearm and additional evidence of the crime.

The suspect was identified as a 37-year-old Kalamazoo man and he was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail. The suspect faces several charges related to the armed robbery.
