A Battle Creek man is behind bars after the Michigan State Police discovered evidence of child pornography possession.

The MSP’s Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force says on Thursday that their investigation into 25-year-old Richard Bilicki began after the Michigan Department of Corrections seized cell phones from him.

Bilicki is a registered sex offender who was out on parole; a search of the Michigan sex offender registry shows that he was convicted in 2012 of criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13.

The MDOC turned over the phones to the state police, and child sexually abusive material was discovered on them. An interview was conducted, and then Bilicki was arrested on charges of child sexually abusive activity, possession of child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime.

The Michigan State Police say they encourage parents to speak to their children about safe use of the internet. Resources can be found at missingkids.org.
